Blue-purple chromoprotein from Acropora millepora; visible to the naked eye, no instrument needed.
lacZ
β-galactosidase; produces blue colour on X-gal. Classic colorimetric reporter.
luxCDABE
Self-contained bacterial bioluminescence operon; emits light with no added substrate. Good for in-vivo/ingestible readout.

Monomeric red fluorescent protein; good for a second channel or food-grade hosts.

Catalytically dead Cas12a (LbCas12a). T-rich PAM; processes its own crRNA array for multiplexing.

Catalytically dead Cas13 — targets RNA rather than DNA, enabling transcript-level sensing/regulation.
dCas9
Catalytically dead S. pyogenes Cas9 (D10A/H840A). Blocks transcription when guided — the CRISPRi repressor.
dCas9-VPR
dCas9 fused to the VPR tripartite activator; strong CRISPRa in eukaryotes (yeast, mammalian).
dCas9-ω
dCas9 fused to the RNA polymerase omega subunit; recruits RNAP to activate a weak promoter (bacterial CRISPRa).
SpCas9 sgRNA scaffold
